"Barayya Beladingale" 

"Barayya Beladingale" – a creative project, is the brain child of Mr. Moorthy Deraje, Chief Advisor (Culture), Chiranthana. 

As per the project, Chiranthana will organize a cultural programme every month for its residents, and also the  well wishers and patrons of art at the Sevashrama premises. It has been started with a view to promote art & culture, to develop this place as a cultural center and also to create public awareness.

This series of programmes will be presented as a tribute to Late P. Kalinga Rao, who popularized the song "Barayya Beladingale".

Those interested to witness these programmes, may send a postcard with their address to Mr. Bharavi Deraje, Varija Ramarao Sevashrama, Idya, Suratkal.



     

Chiranthana organised an Yakshagana Talamaddale, - Krishnarjuna on 28th October 2009 by

the artists of Deraje Seetharamayya Samskrithi Ranga - Chokkadi.

( Krishna - Sri Vasudeva Ranga Bhatta , Udupi,  Arjuna - Sri Venkatrama, Sullia,  Daaruka/ Ishwara - Sri Rama Jois, Bellare

Bhagavathike - Sri Ramachandra Arbhiththaya, Chende - Sri Kumara Subrahmanya olakkunja,

Maddale - Padyana Parameshwara Bhat  Shruthi - Naveena  )

                                     Sri G.K Bhat Seraje, a member of Sri Deraje Seetharamayya samsmaranaa samithi, Mangalore , spoke a few minutes,

                                                in remembrance of the legend Sri Deraje Seetharamayya, before starting the talamaddale

 


This month's Barayya Beladingale featured two plays by the students of Sri Satya Sai Loka Seva School Alike.

The first one was "Raama Dhaanya Charite" based on a composition by Kanakadasa and the second one was "Topivaala" based on the tale from Panchatantra.

Both the plays were directed by Moorthy Deraje and Shankar Prasad Kunchinadka.


     

This month's Barayya Beladingale featured "Yaksha Haasya" by Chapparamane Shreedhar Hegde & Troupe.

They portrayed various comedy sequences to the delight of everyone.


     

This month's Barayya Beladingale featured a flute recital by Sri Nagaraj Hegde from Sirsi.

Sri Nagaraj Hegde is a Gold Medalist in M. Sc. (Agro) and an ace flutist. He was trained under Pt. Venkatesh Godkindi.

He was accompanied by Sri Ravi Kudligi on the tabla.

The concert was held in the Govinda Dasa College Auditorium.


     

This month's Barayya Beladingale featured Jugalbandi by Pt. Sandeep Chatterjee, Kolkata (Santoor) and Vidvan Ravikiran, Manipal (Vocal).

They were accompanied by Sri Pintu Das (Kolkata) and Sri Ashwin (Manipal) on the tabla


   

This month's Barayya Beladingale featured Sri Uday Kiran from Mysore.

Sri Uday Kiran is visually impaired since birth. He is an expert in vocal and instrumental music. He plays the electronic keyboard as well as the violin.

In Barayya Beladingale, he presented Carnatic Classical compositions on the keyboard. Later he presented a demonstration on how the electronic keyboard is being used in various fields of music.

He was accompanied by Sri Arjun on the violin, Sri Radhesh on the Mridangam and Sri Balakrishna on the morching.


     
 

It was a flute recital by Chidambar Kakathkar from Mangalore.
He took the audience to the past through his concert by playing old film songs
from Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu films 

Bharavi Deraje on the Tabla, Panini Deraje on the Guitar and Shankar Jr. on the Octo Pad accompanied Chidambar Kakathkar.

Sri Moorthy Deraje compered the pragramme.

Due to Road block near Varija Rama Rao Sevashrama, this month's Barayya Beladingale was organised  at Shubhagiri Hall, Surathkal.

The Programme was inaugurated by Sri Panduranga Prabhu, Surathkal


 
This year's first Barayya Beladingale programme was held at the Govindadasa College Surathkal.
 

The programme featured 2 dramas by the students of Sri Satya Sai School, Alike.
Both the dramas, viz. "Nanna Gopala" and "Ondu Upavasada Kathe", were directed by Sri Moorthy Deraje.

Around 70 students played various characters in the dramas.


 
This month, Barayya Beladingale had its first post-monsoon programme of the year. The programme featured "Yaksha Navodaya" a Yakshagana solo by Sri Mantapa Prabhakara Upadhya.

Sri Mantapa Prabhakara Upadhya was accompanied by Sri Vidwan Ganapathi Bhat (Bhagavath), Sri A. P. Pathak (Maddale), Sri Bharavi Deraje (Tabla), Sri Krishna Yaji (Chende) and Kum. Shruthiranjini (Violin)


 
This month, Barayya Beladingale featured "Whistle Concert" (Karnatic Classical Music)
by Sri C. N. Madhava Bhat. 
Sri Madhava Bhat hails from Chennigana Thota, Sagar. He had his basic coaching in music from his father Vidwan C. N. Narahari Bhat and continued his practice under the guidance of Vidwan H T Ramaswami.
Sri C N Madhava Bhat hasa been felicitated with the Karnataka Rajyotsava  Award.

He was accompanied by Smt. Sharmila K Rao (Udupi) on the violin and Sri Ramesh Rao (Surathkal) on the Mridangam.

The programme was co-sponsored by Mahalakshmi Teacher, Sri Subbanna Pai, Sri T N Ramesh and Smt. Varsha Shyam Prakash.

 

 
This month, Chiranthana falicitated the donors who contributed towards the trust's 
building fund.
Mr. Prabhu was felicitated for contributing and amount of Rs. 25001 and 
Mr. Nataraj (Personnel Manager BASF) accepted the felicitation on behalf of his company which donated Rs. 20000.

The cultural program featured "Samanvaya Sangeetha" 
by the Samanvaya Samskrithika Prathishthana Vittal.
Many drama compostions ranging from old company dramas to modern dramas, children plays, and  few light music compositions were also presented.
"Samanvaya" is headed by Mr Moorthy Deraje. 
The other members included Sri Shankar Prasad Kunchinadka, Shyamprasad Kunchinadka, 
Bharavi Deraje, Panini Deraje, Shankar Junior, Chandrashekar Kukkaje,
Mrs. Sumathi Deraje, Mrs. Mallika Shyamprasad,
Mrs. Yashaswini, Mrs. Maithili, Mrs. Sowjanya Ishwar, Miss Anaghashree
and Akshyamruthachandra.


This month's "Baaraya Beladingale" featured a talk on "Namma Ahara" (our food) 
by Sri Pallathadka Keshava Bhat followed by 
Talking Doll & Mimicry by Magician Balasubrahmanya.


  

This Month's "Barayya Beladingale" featured Veena concert by Miss Aruna Kumari.

Miss. Aruna Kumari is a MA graduate and an artist for Akashavani Kendra Trissur.

She was accompanied by Sri Balakrishna on the Mridangam and Bharavi Deraje on the Tabla


Barayya Beladingale made a kick start with its post-monsoon programme.

This month featured - Dakshadwara, a yakshagana performance by "Yakshakoota" on 29th November 2004.

Yakshakoota is a team of child artists between the age of 10-15 years.

Sri T. Shyam Bhat, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi and Sri Prabhakara Joshi, eminent yakshagana artist were the chief guests at the function.


 

This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured "Laya Lasya" by artists
led by Sri Gopal Krishna Hegde, Honnavar.

"Laya Lasya" is a blend of Hindusthani Classical Music and Yakshagana Music.
The concert featured - Gopal Krishna Hegde
(Tabla), Krishnayaji Idagunji (Chende).

 

 


 

This month, "Barayya Beladingale" light music concert by

Ho. Na. Raghavendra, Gartikere.
The programme was held on  5th March 2004.

 


 

This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured Sitar recital by Kochikar Devadas Pai.

Sri Devadas Pai is a disciple of Ustad Rafiq Khan as well as Kadri Gopalnath.
He specializes in playing Karnatic compositions using Hindusthani Instruments.   
 
 

 


 

 

 

This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured a dual childrens' drama - "Poorvarangada Konege" and "Punyakoti Govina Haadu" by the students of Muliya Thimmappayya School. The programme was held on  8th January 2004.

This drama is directed by Sri Moorthy Deraje and Sri Shankar Prasad Kunchinadka.

 



This month,
"Barayya Beladingale" featured Yakshagana Ballet by the artists of Yaksharanga Udupi. The programme was held on 5th December 2003.

They presented the "Jatayu Moksha" section from the Ramayana.

In the begining, Smt. Sudha Rao (W/o Sri Vadheesh Rao) and Miss Meghna (D/o Sri Vadheesh Rao) presented a few melodious songs.

On this occasion,  Sri Vadheesh Rao, Nagesh Rao and Sri Ramesh Rao (sons of Late Sri H. Rama Rao)  were felicitated by Chiranthana to express its gratitude towards these brothers who have donated a section of their land for the construction of its self-owned building.

 


This month, the newly constructed stage was inaugurated by Sri  Bendaravadi Subrahmanya Sharma. Sri Diwakar, Mayor, Mangalore was the Chief Guest. Sri Ramesh Rao Surathakal who donated towards the stage was honored on this occasion. Mrs. Shobha, President, Inner Wheel, Surathkal, who donated towards the construction of the structure, was also felicitated by the Mayor.

The "Barayya Beladingale" featured "Krishnarpana" by Mantapa Prabhakara Upadhya and "Hasya Lahari" by Sri Chapparamane Sridhar Hegde. The programme was held on 7 November 2003.

Sri Mantapa Prabhakar Upadhya depicted the part of "Yashoda" and "Panchali" from his series of "Eka-Vyakthi Yakshagana" programme.

Sri Chapparamane Sridhar Hegde, a leading comedian in the Yakshagana field portrayed the role of "Manthara" from the Ramayana and "Behinachara" from the play "Gadhayudha". 

 


 

This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured a seminar - "Misuses of Magic" by Prof. Shankar. The programme was held on 20th September 2003 at 6:30 p.m.

Prof. Shankar is one of the Chief Advisors of Chiranthana and a world renowned magician. He conducted this awareness programme wherein he demonstrated many tricks used by fake "tantriks" to fool people and swindle money from them.

 


This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured a seminar - "Domestic Medicines" by Dr. Savithri Daithota. The programme was held on  25th August 2003 at 6 p.m.

Dr. Savithri, a Gynecologist from Udupi, is one of the trustees of Chiranthana. She comes from a family which is almost a synonym for Ayurvedic Medicines. She provided information on treating common health problems using domestic plants & herbs. She also informed about the various First Aid Methods that can be done using the vegetables commonly found in almost all kitchens.

This talk was concluded by a short Magic performance by Shankar Junior, one of the  trustees of Chiranthana. He also shared his experiences from his latest tour of Holland and London.

 



This month,
"Barayya Beladingale" featured "Religious Oration" by Anantha Sathya Sanjeeva. The programme was held on 27th July 2003 at 6 p.m.

Mr. Anantha Sathya Sanjeeva is from Hosabettu.  He is a retired State Bank employee. His oration featured the personality of Hanuman

 


This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured "Harikatha" by Thonse Pushkala Kumar. The programme was held on 29 June 2003 at 6:15 p.m.

Mr. Pushkala Kumar, a multi-talented artist, is an employee of Grameena Bank, Vittal. 

 


This month, "Barayya Beladingale" featured a Flute Recital by Dr. Chakrapani. 
The programme was held on 31 May 2003 at 6:30 p.m.
 Dr. Chakrapani is the Head of the Department, Dept. of Medicine, K.M.C, Mangalore.

He was accompanied by Sri. Venugopal Shanbhag on the violin and Sri Ravi Tilak on the Mridangam.

 



"Barayya Beladingale" was flagged off with the Devotional Music concert by Gurudeva Bhajana Samithi Odiyoor.

Matanandamayee from Odiyoor presented the concert with Mr. Raviraj on the Harmonium and Mr. Padmanabha on the Tabla.
